Tectonics-primarily concerned with the making of architecture in a modem world.
Stereotomics-the architecture of subtraction or carving away of solid form.
The reimagining of my masters project through two alternative means of expression. One following the traditional vernacular of a castle/broch. The other being a modern approach through the lens of a timber glulam frame.
The castle approach is carved from the cube and is inhabited in a more conventional manner.
The Frame is very experimental having all circulation done around the central core and dormitory on the periphery.
Both approaches were intriguing conceptually and allowed me to reimagine how the workings of the routine and the architecture might be expressed through the construction method.
What might remain after the lifetime of the structure was also an interesting idea, having a ruin of the stone like that of long abandoned broch's and castles
Or a withering frame of wood that might decay in a different manner.
